The small-town atmosphere of Mooresville, Indiana is one of this hamlet’s best attractions. It’s natural, then, that when it comes to fine art in Mooresville, there’s not a whole lot of organized activity going on besides ceramics. But you can bet there are Mooresville artists working away even in solitude, especially surrounded as they are by the inspirational country all around them in Central Indiana.

A quick drive northeastward will get the Mooresville resident into Indianapolis, where they can enjoy the bounty of excellent Indianapolis art galleries and Indianapolis art museums that reside inside the Circle City. The creative community of Indy is well-known for its love and support of the arts, and artists in Mooresville have an immediate and fortuitous entree into the energetic Indianapolis art community that fuels the world of Indianapolis art.

A nice thing to do in Mooresville might be to visit the Ladybug Pottery, a ceramics gallery where you’ll find all different decorative pieces, handcrafted by Mooresville artist Janet Herron. Many pieces of her “functional pottery” feature carefully executed paintings, and you’ll love the unique whimsy in others. The gallery is located at 199 Arcadia Way in Mooresville.

Another pottery gallery to visit in Mooresville is the Monrovia Mudworks Pottery Studio, run by artist Jolee Chartrand. This place is a combination exhibition gallery, teaching arena and space where the public can come in and try their hand at pottery-making. Classes go beyond ceramics into the fields of painting, drawing, stained glass and basketry. You’ll find this pleasant place at 51 East High Street in Mooresville. Their motto is “A Place Where It’s Okay to Play.” They have an ever-changing display of fine ceramic art.
